DIY Bike Repair - What is it ?

New bike systems need special tools and training for using the tools. The days of the monkey wrench mechanic are long gone. I think this course is aimed at owners of simpler bikes. Electronic shifts, custom wheels and other sophisticated bike innovations require special tools and know-how. I've seen bearings fall out of bottom brackets while riders were pedaling, springs inside trigger shifters stretch out, rods thrust through shocks, and wheels bent into a taco shape. Some things are best left to the pros. Simple bikes are simple to fix. More elaborate bikes...etc. The tools are relatively inexpensive and most general maintenance is well within the ability of the average rider.

But it's all my opinion before found DIY Bike Repair Video from Dave Delgado. DIY Bike Repair is a complete collection of over 200 videos and DIY manuals covering the repair and maintenance of bicycles. It covers mountain bikes, road bikes and a section on racing bikes.

DIY Bike Repair is extremely good and covers most major bike components. It's also supplemented on their web site at www.diybikerepair.com. DiyBikeRepair maintained by Dave Delgado, is excellent, and is particularly good for working on those old, oddball bikes such as what you find over at Ron's or the various bike charities. He contributes to various biking magazines and other cycling publications regularly. Maintenance is a good addition to your bookshelf, there's a volume for road, mountain, and triathlon bikes.
